Bristol Aquarium Maternity Session

Just before the end of 2021 we travelled to Bristol Aquarium for a Maternity Session. This was a full team session with photo, video and a hair and makeup artist. These sessions are always really fun as we can all bounce ideas back and forth and really play around with elements creatively.

It was another tough session to light for us on location as we weren’t allowed to use flash due to the fish. We used the Godox VL300 continuous light to counteract this issue and it also allowed us to film video simultaneously. As we only had the aquarium to ourselves for an hour this also helped speed up the session as we were both able to work alongside each other.

Planning

As with all full team shoots, this took a lot of planning and preparation before the day of the session. Liaising with the aquarium to ensure we were the only people there. This was for the safety of everyone and all the equipment but also for the privacy of the client as these sessions can be quite daunting. It was to also speed up the process of editing afterwards as editing people out of the background of images is always frustrating.

Locations

There were three specific locations we wanted to use within the aquarium. The floor to ceiling tank, the tunnel and the tropical room. All of these areas brought different elements to the images.
